Castle

Years ago a family member from New York, sent my father and his siblings, an aunt and uncle, a book on the MacKewen family history. I had vowed that one day I would research and go see for myself.

Years went by and finally after piecing together bits and pieces, plus having the time and resources 2018 would be the year I achieve my goal of going to Scotland.

The MacKewens I have become to know hail from New York City, the Bronx, to be specific. They settled along the east coast from upstate New York to New Jersey and eventually moving west to California.

The MacEwens of Otter have a castle I was told. Dreaming of a castle like in the Disney movies, I researched our castle found its location, or what remains and what was built by the Clan. Reading other previous blogs and looking at photos of the Cairn and the Kilfinan Hotel for a full year dreaming of standing there.

This summer, 2018, we spent a week at the Kilfinan Hotel exploring the Cowal Peninsula. The Oystercather restaurant, Kames, Dunoon and other small villages along both coasts of the Loch Fyne. Going to Oban via Inveraray. Making friends was easy and staying at the Kilfinan Hotel at any given moment a Clan member will drop by for a drink or to spend the night.
